Since 1963 small boats have sailed and raced on the Panmure Basin, a volcanic crater connected to Auckland's Waitemata Harbour by a narrow channel and the Tamaki Estuary.

The club has concentrated over the past forty five years on training junior sailors and providing friendly competition on the Basin's sheltered tidal waters. Easy access, low fees, a safe environment and a fleet of rental yachts have made the PLSC a popular club for beginners and Sunday sailors alike.
